Walking a dog in West Vancouver

West Vancouver is a driving neighbourhood in a way the West End is not. Houses are further apart, the hill is steep, and the good walks are destinations rather than something you fall into on the way to the corner shop. That changes how a visit is planned, and it is worth being honest about.

Ambleside Park is the anchor. It has one of the best off-leash dog areas in the region, right on the water, with the bridge and the freighters in view and enough space that a nervous dog can keep their distance from everyone else. The seawall walk from Ambleside through to Dundarave is flat, sheltered and pleasant year-round, which matters more here than downtown because the weather off the water is not gentle in January.

Further along, Lighthouse Park gives you old-growth trails and a proper climb. Dogs are welcome there on leash. Up in the British Properties the walks are quieter, steeper and more residential, and for older dogs we usually drive down to the flat rather than putting them up and down the hill twice a day.

Home care on longer stays. Mail and parcels, plants and garden watering, bins, bedding and towels.

Distance, gates and the practical bits

Because West Vancouver is spread out, we are straight with people about scheduling. Visits here take longer to reach than a downtown suite, so we plan them properly rather than squeezing them between two other bookings. If your dates are tight, tell us early and we will say honestly whether we can cover them well.

The practical detail matters here too: which gate, which door, whether the driveway is passable in a heavy rain, where the spare key lives, and what your dog will do with an unlatched side gate. We go through all of it at the free meet and greet.

One caregiver stays with your booking from start to finish, and you meet them before anything goes ahead. Two animals per caregiver is our maximum, which is what our insurance allows and what real attention requires.

Questions from West Vancouver

Do you go to Ambleside off-leash?

Yes, when it suits the dog. Ambleside Park has a well-known off-leash dog area on the water. Off-leash areas and hours change from time to time, so we check the current District of West Vancouver listing rather than going from memory.

Do you cover the British Properties?

Yes. The walks up there are quieter and steeper, so for older dogs or dogs with joint problems we often drive down to the flat at Ambleside or Dundarave instead of doing the hill twice a day.

Is there a travel charge for West Vancouver?

No. West Vancouver is covered at our normal rates. What we do ask for is a bit more notice, because visits here take longer to reach and we would rather plan them properly than rush.
