Our own neighbourhood

Puppy Time is based in the West End. That is not a marketing detail, it changes what the service actually looks like here. We know which lanes flood, which lobbies need a fob after nine, which corners of Stanley Park are quiet on a Sunday, and which stretch of Davie gets loud enough to bother a nervous dog.

The West End is the densest residential neighbourhood in Canada, and it shows in the mix of homes. Three-storey walk-ups from the fifties sit next to 1970s concrete towers and new glass. Some buildings have a concierge, plenty have nothing but a buzzer and a set of stairs. All of it is walkable, which is the point.

Stanley Park is at the end of the street. Lost Lagoon, the seawall, Second Beach, and the trails inland all start within a few blocks of most West End addresses. English Bay and Alexandra Park give you a shorter option when the weather is bad, and Nelson Park is the usual midweek stop for dogs who need grass rather than distance.

What we do in the West End

Everything, and more of it here than anywhere else.

Dog walking. One-on-one, on-leash, into Stanley Park or around the Lagoon depending on the dog, the weather and the crowds.
In-home pet sitting. An hour, a day, overnight, or an extended stay. Our longest single stay so far ran two months.
Drop-in visits. A short walk, a feed, a medication, a litter box, and a proper look at how your pet is doing.
1-on-1 daycare. Daycare without the kennel, in your pet's own home.
Cat care. West End suites are full of cats. Feeding, litter, medication, and time spent with them rather than at them.
Home care on longer stays. Mail, parcels, plants, bins, bedding and towels.

Reactive dogs, seniors, and pets on medication

A lot of our West End work is with the pets other people find hard. Reactive dogs who cannot cope with a busy seawall. Anxious rescues settling into a new home. Seniors who need a shorter, slower route. Pets recovering from surgery, on medication, or on a special diet.

Density is the reason. In a neighbourhood this tight, a dog who lunges at other dogs meets three of them between the lift and the corner. Group walks make that worse. One-on-one, on-leash, on a route chosen for your particular dog, makes it manageable.

Tell us the honest version of your pet at the meet and greet, including the parts you would rather not mention. We would rather say we are not the right fit than take a booking we cannot do well.

Are you actually based in the West End?

Yes. Marybeth lives here and has run Puppy Time from the West End since 2015. It is the neighbourhood we know best and where most of our long-standing clients are.

Do you walk in Stanley Park?

Yes, constantly. The Lagoon loop, the seawall and the inland trails are all part of the regular rotation. Which one your dog gets depends on the weather, the crowds and how they cope with other dogs.

My dog is reactive. Can you still help?

Often yes, and it is a large part of what we do. Walks are one-on-one and on-leash, and the route is chosen around your dog. Tell us the honest version at the meet and greet and we will tell you straight away whether we are the right fit.

My building has no concierge, just a buzzer. Is that a problem?

No. Plenty of West End buildings are like that. We sort out keys, buzzer codes and stair access at the free meet and greet, before your first booking.
